Mayor Gavin Newsom showed how truly spineless he is April 9 when the Olympic torch passed through San Francisco. By changing the parade route and moving the closing ceremonies to a conference room at SFO, he stifled everyone's First Amendment right to free speech.
I went to San Francisco in hopes of witnessing the Olympics Torch Relay and came back disappointed and confused. As many times as I saw Chinese flags, I also saw a variety of "Free Tibet" banners. I was utterly confused. Free Tibet from what? And since the pro-Tibet protestors were screaming their "Free Tibet" slogans at Chinese people, I assume their claim to be "China should free Tibet.
China should have never been chosen to host of the 2008 Olympic Games. The Chinese government embodies the spirit of the ancient games about as much as Adolf Hitler and his government when Germany hosted them in 1936. In many ways, China is comparable to Hitler's Germany.
